CAMERA AND BAG STRAPS

Choosing the correct camera strap for your DSLR camera

The best camera strap is to a large degree determined by knowing the weight of the camera and lens you carry. It is important to distribute the weight of the camera, lens, flash, and battery pack evenly across your shoulder. This weight determines the width of the camera strap pad necessary for optimal comfort. The best source for camera weights and specifications is your user manual, a scale or dpreview

There are two really cool iPad apps for Canon and Nikon lenses on the Apple Apps site called the Canon Buddy and Nikon Buddy. These iPad camera lens applications give lens specifications including weights and provide independent review links by Ken Rockwell, Photozone, Nikon Glass, Fredrik A. Rasmussen, Thom Hogan and Fred Miranda. This is solid stuff and I often use what they say to determine what I buy.

If you don't use an iPad. . .

Choosing a camera store - The best place to buy a camera, lens or accessories.

While the camera and lens reviews from the sites listed above are unbiased and usually solid some of these sites link to or take advertising dolars from either the multinational 48.7 Billon Dollar Amazon.com, B&H camera or Adorama camera when you to purchase photography equipment from the links to these stores. Some of these review sites, as great as they are, keep the site running via a small commission from Amazon or these big box photo stores. No harm no foul.

I will preface my next statement by saying that I do not get one dime, a special discount nor does the small professional camera store FotoCare sell UPstraps. UPstraps are sold direct.

After trying the big box stores and Amazon, I now call Jeff Hirsch and the gang at FotoCare. PhotoCare is a smaller camera store that for the most part deals with pros and provides very personalized service, solid product knowledge and competitive prices, even if your not a pro, FotoCare will provide you exceptional service and competitive prices. FotoCare gets daily feedback from the pros in New York who buy and rent from FotoCare. I've never had a bad experience buying from Jeff.
